The Letter

June 8th Motor Lodge
The stationery upon which Harback wrote her letter is from a motel located in contemporary eastern Wisconsin. June 8th refers to the failed coup by General Jason Crawford against GLZ leadership in NE07. Crawford chafed against GLZ oversight of his prosecution of the war with the HLZ, and eventually attempted to overthrow President Michael Martin’s government. He was executed along with five co-conspirators.

The letter found in the Jarndyke Ark was written by Matthew Jarndyke’s girlfriend Patricia Harback, whose name appears on the envelope also discovered in the Ark. Based on the chronology established by the receipts found in Jarndyke’s wallet, this may have been her final communication with him.

Along with the correctional facility map, Harback’s letter has helped arkologists establish Jarndyke’s intentions as he moved north through the Great Lakes Zone.

“What happened to Jess”
Scholars speculate that this may refer to the death, injury, or arrest of Jarndyke’s friend. This event may have been the catalyst for Jarndyke’s trip north.

“This is not a fight you can win”
This line likely refers to the actions Jarndyke planned to take at the Kicking Water Manufacturing Facility. What happened at the facility is ultimately cloaked in mystery, but most scholars believe that Jarndyke was involved in insurgent activity at the site.
