The dual crows behind the general refer to Broadchurch’s oft-quoted dictum “When we are done with them, there won’t be anything left for the crows to pick clean.”

The design currency of the Great Lakes Zone follows a system not unlike that of the European Union, with size and color varying with each denomination. As with the European Union’s system, the bills grow larger as denominations increase.

Carrie Frames
Carrie Frames served as a tank crew member in the 26th Armored Division, which fought in St. Louis before GLZ forces ultimately pulled back and razed the city. Captured by the Heartland Zone army after her vehicle was disabled by an armor-piercing round and the rest of her crew was killed, Frames was tried as an enemy combatant in a highly publicized show trial. She was executed on March 1, NE006.

Jennifer Leakey
A martyr of the GLZ’s brief war with the Southeast Zone, seven-year-old Jennifer Leakey was killed in an airstrike in New Albany on June 23, NE0002. Leakey was among the first to hear the approaching planes, even before the air raid sirens sounded, and died on her elementary school’s playground after helping 20 to 30 younger children into the shelter.

Background image
The image behind Leakey appears to be that of a ruined city, perhaps alluding to her death in the Southeast Zone’s air campaign, which severely damaged industry along the Ohio River.
